It was an honor to join Lisa Hicks-Clayton, Dearborn Heights City Councilwoman, President Carol Stuart of the Southwest Dearborn Heights Neighborhood Association, Corporal Mark Parinello of the Dearborn Heights Police Department, and Troopers Mark Keller and Walt Crider of the Michigan State Police at Daly Park today in Dearborn Heights as we kicked off the 2015 Light Up the Night campaign to reduce crime in our community. Today, the Michigan Senate held it's annual Memorial Day Ceremony to honor those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while in service to our country.
In lieu of inviting a guest to the event, I vacated my seat on the Senate floor in order to convert my chair and my desk into a "Missing Man Table" to commemorate those POW/MIA members who have fallen, gone missing, or been imprisoned.
In keeping with my belief that veterans issues must remain non-partisan in Michigan, the Bible that I placed on my desk belongs to my friend, Senator Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake).
